In April, Troop 221 went to Collin County Adventure Camp for our 2nd “Chopped” Campout.

The morning began with the boys building 2 fire pits for the camp.  Although we weren’t sure exactly what we were doing, the boys did a nice job.  We look forward to using those fire pits in the coming years.

After the service project and lunch, we started our Cooking Competition.  The boys were divided into 5 Patrols and given a basket of mystery ingredients to compete in three rounds.

The mystery ingredients for the three rounds were:

  • Appetizer: Avocado, Lucky Charms, Meatballs & Pita Bread
  • Entree: Chicken Breast, Corn on the Cob, Pomegranate, Ramen
  • Dessert: Bacon, Canned Biscuits, Peaches, Whoppers

Each round was judged by five adults.  The criteria was: taste, presentation & creativity.  As is often the case, the boys exceeded our expectations at every turn.  The judges were served some really creative and tasty dishes.

In the end, the Cobras won the Entree & Dessert rounds and took home the overall win.  The Bucks/Phoenix/Falcons won the Appetizer round and finished in 2nd Place overall.  The Scorpions/Blackhawks finished in 3rd Place.

The evening ended with our Golden Spoon dessert contest, won for the 3rd time by the older boy patrol (who also cooked lasagna & smoked a pork shoulder throughout the day Saturday).

This is an outstanding event for our troop and we had a great weekend.  Enjoy the photos below; there are a bunch more on our SmugMug site.
