Hello Troop 221 Parents,
In anticipation of the church reopening, there are some new requirements. If you are a registered adult in Troop 221 and reading this, you have an action item to complete ASAP. Please keep reading. If you are unsure your status of being a registered adult with the Troop, at the bottom of this email is a list. Look for your name.
Each BSA unit, meeting at Custer Road United Methodist Church, must have all of its registered BSA adults take the church’s Youth Protection Training, “Ministry Safe” (this is their version of BSA’s YPT). The church requires all registered BSA adults entering the church and into an area where children are present (i.e. our Boy Scout meetings) take this training. If you don’t complete this process, you will not be allowed into the church (near the scout activities) when it reopens.
There is a simple process to get us set up and into the church’s system … this first time. The below outlines this process and the steps YOU must do to complete. If you have any questions, please contact Bill Chew. He is spearheading this effort. Once you have completed the below process, automatic reminder emails will be sent to you every two years … to re-take the Ministry Safe training.
Step 1: Initiate your (church) background check (yes, both the church and BSA will be performing background checks on you)(BSA is supposed to do it every 5 years, church requires every 2)
– Go to https://www.crumc.org/resources/how-can-i-serve/ … scroll down to “Step Two-Background Check”
– Find the Application for Background Check “Click Here” link. Click.
– On the next screen, scroll down to where you see “Scouting” on left-hand side, click on the word “Scouting” (it is a hyperlink) (it is imperative that you click on “Scouting”!)
– The next page looks identical to … except on the right-hand column of the screen you will now see “Application for Background Check – Scouting” (that is a hyperlink … click on it)
– Fill out form (NOTE: the background check agency that you are sending your information to is called “Protect My Ministry”)(the security on this form’s data capture is 256-bit encryption!)
– Submit
– Now, you wait… you will receive an email from Ministry Safe once your background check is complete
– Upon receiving your email from Ministry Safe, go to step 2
Step 2: Take the “Ministry Safe” youth protection Training course
– Be on the lookout for an email (watch your SPAM folders) from Ministry Safe
– Open your email from Ministry Safe and find the training hyperlink
– Click on the training hyperlink (this is a unique hyperlink just for you because it must capture who you are and your test score)
– Complete the training
– Save copy of your completion certificate
– Send your completion certificate to Bill Chew
That’s it! Two steps and you are done! Thank you for doing this! Just like BSA’s YPT, we all will need to complete the church version (Ministry Safe) once every two years…
