Buffalo River Canoe Trip
May 28, 2025 @ 5:00 am – June 1, 2025 @ 7:00 pm
Last year, the cost per person was $160 each and we’ll provide an updated cost as we get closer to the trip. The fee will cover your canoe & shuttles, meals on the river, t-shirt, fishing contest trophies and camp fees. You’ll also want to bring $30 or so for meals (in-transit, dinner at JoJo’s Catfish Wharf, ice cream on the square in Mountain View). Gas costs for the drivers will be handled after actual costs are recorded and debited through the scout passbook accounts.
We will have a planning meeting at the May 5th troop/committee meeting to assign responsibilities and prepare for the trip. We will have a trailer prep date on May 12th to clear out non-BRCT items, and load BRCT items that we need on the river. On May 19th, we’ll have a final information meeting to cover any last minute questions anyone has regarding the trip.
We will meet the evening of Tuesday, May 27th to pack the trailer with personal gear and crew gear. Wednesday, May 28th, we’ll meet at 5:00 AM for a 5:30 AM departure. We will be driving about 6 hours to North Central Arkansas, get our canoes and gear transported to the river and canoe 3-4 miles before arriving at our camp for the 1st night on the river. High Adventure!
In order to attend the BRCT, you must be a 2nd Class Scout, pass the BSA swimmer test, earn the Swimming Merit Badge and Canoeing Merit Badge and attend and “pass” the canoe shakedown campout on May 9th – May 11th. Since this is a high adventure trip (> 72 hours), we also need a valid A,B & C medical form for all attendees (this means a doctor signed physical within the last 12 months). We will review the overall requirements on May 5th planning meeting.
You will have the opportunity to earn the Canoeing MB at the May campout.
The BRCT is an incredible experience and is one of the things that makes our troop unique. Most Eagle Scout candidates, at their Eagle BOR, mention BRCT as one of their favorite troop experiences! We are really excited that this trip is just around the bend and even more so for those of you that will experience it for the 1st time.
We always need plenty of adults to serve as drivers, so parents, don’t be shy about signing up. This trip is amazingly fun and relaxing and not to be missed!
