After two previous attempts that were disrupted due to weather, we finally made it to Crater of Diamond’s State Park in Arkansas! We drove 4 1/2 hours on Friday, stopping for gas and snacks near the Arkansas border. We arrived in our camp at Lake Greeson pretty late. But we setup quickly and quietly and ate our standard Friday-night “cracker barrel” (sausage, crackers, and cheese). After breakfast on Saturday, we went to Crater of Diamonds State Park to dig for diamonds! While they were not successful in finding any diamonds, the scouts had a ton of fun digging and sifting the dirt. After lunch, we headed back to the campground and the scouts performed a service project, helping clear the hiking trails. The scouts cooked dinner and held a flag retirement ceremony around the campfire. On Sunday, we headed home, stopping in Texarkansas for lunch. Although nobody returned a millionaire, the scouts had blast and another successful campout! We’re looking forward to our next adventures on our Buffalo River Canoe Trip and Summer Camp at Woodruff Scout Camp.
